Breast Biopsy
Post-Operative Instructions
Below is a list of anwswers to commonly asked questions our patients have after a breast biopsy. This list is meant to help you understand your recovery. Each patient has a different experience, so these guidelines are general in nature. If you have any questions please call our office for more information.
1.) Pain - Breast Biopsies usually result in mild to moderate pain for 1-2 days. Take the pain medication as prescribed. Avoid Aspirin. If the pain is minimal, regular Tylenol or no medication is fine. If the pain is severe please call me for advice.
2.) Dressing - You will have a gauze dressing over your wound. Remove this 48 hours (two days) after surgery. Under this dressing will be small tape strips crossing your wound. Leave these strips (steri-strips) in place. You may shower 48 hours after surgery. No swimming or bathing (soaking) for 10 days.
3.) Clothing - You should wear a support or athletic bra for the first 24 hours (day & night) after surgery. After this wear the bra during waking hours for the first week.
4.) Appointment - Please schedule an appointment 5-7 days after your surgery.
5.) Results (Pathology) - I will discuss your biopsy results at the first post-operative visit.
6.) Questions - If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call.
