Flexible Sigmoidoscopy
Pre-Operative Instructions
I.) MEDICATIONS
1.) Magnesium Citrate 240 ml. bottle (this is a cathartic...i.e. it will give you diarrhea to clean out your lower intestines)
2.) Fleets Enema (this is a complete package with instructions)
II.) DAY BEFORE PROCEDURE
1.) Restrict your diet to clear liquids. (See below). Take fluid liberally to avoid dehydration (i.e. 10-14 glasses per day)
2.) Chill Magnesium Citrate or pour over ice
3.) Drink Magnesium Citrate (240 ml., the whole bottle) before 2:00 p.m.
Examples of Clear Liquids:
Clear Broth (Chicken or Beef)
Flavored Jello (without fruit or other solids)
Fruit Juices (without pulp) and other clear liquids include:

| Cherry | Kool-Aid | Tea |
| Cranberry | Gatorade | Cola |
| Orange (pulp free) | Popsicles | 7-Up |
Please AVOID DAIRY PRODUCTS until after your exam
III.) DAY OF PROCEDURE
1.) Take FLEETS ENEMA thirty minutes (1/2 hour) before leaving home for examination
A POOR PREPARATION WILL MAKE THE EXAMINATION IMPOSSIBLE TO PERFORM AND REQUIRE YOU TO RESCHEDULE
